Pontiac Muscle Car - Early MuscleCars

Listed below are some of the earlier model cars that rumbled down the streets long ago with big blocks and attitude. And in some cases (sleepers) with no markings as to hide how bad ass they were.

1961 Impala 409

1961 Pontiac Ventura 389 - Introduction of the 389 produced 345 hp with a tri power carb option.
1962 Pontiac Catalina Super Duty 421 - Fewer than 180 were built for 1962. Most went into Catalinas and 16 approximately were installed in the new Grand Prix.
1964 Pontiac Tempest GTO 389 - Pontiac made its 389 cid V-8 part of a $296.00 option package for the Tempest, thus the Grand Turismo Omologato musclecar was born.
1966 Pontiac GTO 389 - This "Goat" as it was known, was the highest one year total (96,946 produced) sold and ever attained by a true musclecar.

Big Bad Boys - Muscle Cars did not start with the 1964 GTO!

1964 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-4-2 - It actually was the four barrel carb, Muncie four speed manual transmission and dual exhaust with the 330 cid engine, that became what is known now as the 4-4-2.
1965 Buick Skylark Grand Sport 400 - It was actually a 401 cid and the "Wildcat 445" logo on the air cleaner referred to the engine's torque rating.

1961 Chevrolet Impala 409 - Chevrolet made 453 Impala SS cars that year and only 142 got the 409 engine.
1965 Chevelle SS 396 - The Z16 package included the Turbo-Jet 396, 160 mph speedometer, 6,000-rpm tach and an AM/FM stereo radio.
1966 Chevrolet Biscayne 427 - A bored out version of the then 396 cid V-8, the Turbo-Jet 427 debuted.

1966 Ford Fairlane 427 - GT versions got the 390 cid while the two door Fairlane 500s and 500XLs got the 427.

1962 Dodge Dart 413 - The 413 cid V-8 known as the Max Wedge, made its way from the big Chryslers to the smaller Dodges and Plymouths.
1964 Plymouth Fury 426 Street Wedge - Available in the full size Dodge and the full size Plymouth.
1966 Dodge Charger 426 Hemi - Only 468 got the Hemi out of 37,344 built that year.
